By late 2007, John Dangerfield now had four franchise locations and two pre-owned lots, with over 350 employees. Within two years, however, the economic downturn in the U.S. had hit the automotive industry hard. Suzuki filed for bankruptcy in 2009, putting an end to Johnny Dangerfield’s franchises, while around the same time General Motors pulled the plug on 500 dealerships, including his Easley location.
Downsizing operations, as a result, the focus of Dangerfield’s attention returned to the Moncks Corner business established in 2003.
