From fresh-faced salesman to founding and running South Carolina’s number one independent automotive dealership, Dangerfield’s 37-year career represents something which is unarguably impressive. From Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Saturn, to Pontiac, Buick, GMC, and more, Dangerfield quickly rose through the ranks working for some of America’s best-loved automotive brands.

In fact, by the age of 28, less than 10 years into his career, Johnny Dangerfield had taken on a general manager role within one of the country’s most successful automotive dealership groups, specializing in the Saturn brand. This, at the time, made him the youngest general manager across any of the group’s 85 locations.

Within three years, John Dangerfield had taken another general manager position, this time specializing in Pontiac, Buick, and GMC. Here, and in just two short years, he successfully increased sales volumes by over 350%.

Shortly after, in 1995, Johnny Dangerfield left to establish his own venture – Johnny’s Truck and Auto Center in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Within five years, the independent automotive business had moved to a purpose-built facility where it continued to grow, before adding Johnny’s Accessories Shop.

Next, Johnny Dangerfield committed to a Suzuki franchise after being approached directly by the Japanese motor corporation. After being named the number one Suzuki dealer in the U.S. for market penetration within a year, what followed was a second Suzuki franchise and site. Two years later came a General Motors location in Easley, while a further 12 months on, John Dangerfield established another additional site in Myrtle Beach.

By late 2007, John Dangerfield now had four franchise locations and two pre-owned lots, with over 350 employees. Within two years, however, the economic downturn in the U.S. had hit the automotive industry hard. Suzuki filed for bankruptcy in 2009, putting an end to Johnny Dangerfield’s franchises, while around the same time General Motors pulled the plug on 500 dealerships, including his Easley location.

Downsizing operations, as a result, the focus of Dangerfield’s attention returned to the Moncks Corner business established in 2003.

In 2011, Johnny Dangerfield had taken Johnny’s Truck and Auto Center to Summerville. Along with two of his other automotive business interests. This established Automaxx of the Carolinas. Johnny Dangerfield’s unparalleled experience saw the business quickly grow.
