During a decade spent honing his skills as a pro golfer, Johnny ‘Suzuki’ Dangerfield has enjoyed numerous great successes.
Starting with a win at Awendaw’s Bulls Bay Golf Club in 2008, Dangerfield has collected trophy after trophy in the years which have followed. Dangerfield, known locally and to friends as Johnny Suzuki, has gone on to make a real name for himself among the golfing fraternity, particularly on the South Carolina golf scene.
Further to his early Bulls Bay Golf Club win, Johnny Cornelius Dangerfield, owner of Automaxx of the Carolinas, has claimed several further victories at the club, including last year, and three years ago, back in 2015.
Set against the Atlantic Ocean, Bulls Bay has seen a once flat stretch of Lowcountry coastline transformed into a landscape reminiscent of the great links golf courses of Scotland and Ireland. “It’s a beautiful location,” adds Dangerfield, “and offers one of the purest golf experiences out there.”
A particular fan of another local golfing haunt, the Daniel Island Club, Dangerfield and golf partner Marc Horne recently enjoyed back-to-back tournament wins at the sporting hot spot, just outside of Charleston. Here, Dangerfield and Horne were lucky enough to scoop both the 2017 Fall Hunt and 2018 Spring Chase tournaments.
A through and through philanthropist, Dangerfield’s efforts on the golf course have seen him able to raise the profiles of a number of organizations, charities, and other good causes with which he’s affiliated. These include Mount Pleasant-based Seacoast Church, of which he is heavily involved in the church’s sports ministry.
“Johnny has been a godsend for the sports ministry here at the church,” explains Seacoast Church director Wes Koch. “When I first met Johnny and mentioned that I was the director for the sports ministry at Seacoast, he was quick to respond.”
“He said to me, ‘If it has to do with God’s kingdom and athletics… I’m in!'” adds Koch of his first meeting with Dangerfield.
Over three years later and true to his word, the Automaxx of the Carolinas boss has earned the title of Seacoast Sports’ most trusted and active supporter. “Johnny consistently goes further than asked,” says Koch, “and delivers more than we deserve.”
Mount Pleasant resident Dangerfield has also ventured into other areas of sport, including taking part in high-octane motorsports events such as the Annual Discount Auto Parts 200 presented by ROL Gaskets at the USA International Speedway.
“While I do have a deep love for many sports,” he adds, wrapping up, “it’s golf about which I’m most passionate, and I very much look forward to future tournaments at both Bulls Bay Golf Club and the Daniel Island Club.”
